ODST for life!

5. Swordbase needs a complete overhaul. First, it's bland looking both in and out, and second it's confusing as hell. There needs to be some kind of distinction about which side you're on, where you're at, etc.

Agree with everything except this. I actually think that swordbase is good.

I agree somewhat with point one on the movement speed but the rest I feel isn't really a problem. The jump is great the way it is and I really didn't like Halo 3's jump. I really like the HUD on this game and find it much superior to Halo 3's. The DMR is an excellent gun when used to it's maximum cpacity and doesn't really need to be improved. If it was any better than it already is, everybody would be flocking to it and it would just be a BR clone, which I feel would affect the game in a negative way since it could outshoot any gun (which it already does usually when being consistan with you headshots) I don't find the grenades an issue, but if there was an increase in movement speed, it would help people avoid them a bit more if they are really that much of an issue. I actually really like swordbase, and have no problems navigating it or knowing where I am. It isn't the most colorful map but it still is nice. And if Bungie were to tailor a button layout to every loadout, then it would make using them way too easy, and it wouldn't be as fun anymore. Also the jetpacks are already a really useful loadout and don't need their own button layout to make them any better.

Honestly, I find this game feels a lot more natural then Halo 3 ever did. I stopped playing Halo 3 consistantly because it just didn't feel right. At the moment I consider the Halo Reach Beta the best game I've ever played or close to it(alright, maybe other than Ocarina of Time)and have the most fun playing it than any other game I own (and that includes MW2, which I can't stand to play practically anymore, and BF:BC2 as well as other big titles).

One thing that I don't find feels natural is sticky throwing, for some reason I liked stickies more in Halo 3. It might be because I think they arc down more than in Halo 3. Idk it just doesn't feel right.

I think this game is a lot easier to adapt to for those that are new to X-box, and also thos that are new to the Halo series and I think it is a great successor to Halo 3 and improves greatly on some areas that Halo 3 was lacking. I find it one of the most balanced games I've played.

I think all the loadouts are really balanced the way they are, and that most of the complaints are that when someone gets owned by a Guard user due to his armor lock they get frustrated. Then since they are frustrated they play less smartly and keep getting killed by Guard users. THen they start to complain about it, untill they are conviced that, in this case Guard is a horrible mistake by Bungie. I know this because I have felt frustrated at the different loadouts at time and I start to play stupidly but honestly I have played all the loadouts and they really aren't that unbalanced as long as you are a half decent player and keep you wits about you.

Also I agree with whoever said that the chages for realism and all the other changes are changes for the better. There is no point in remaking Halo 3 but just calling it a different name. It's fine to comment on the game if there are problems with it but stop trying to turn it into a remake of Halo 3. Remember we are not all Master Chiefs, and the game makes more sense if it's more realistic this time around. I really think people should stop critiziing the changes just because they are different from Halo 3. This honestly feels more natural, and it is Halo it's just not Halo 3. Also nothing is ever going to beat the Halo community, it's better than every other game's community out there and Bungie takes care of its fans. Halo takes more skill to play than other FPS but it doesn't take any skill to play remake after remake of the same game. It just proves you can't adapt to changes, aren't open minded and can only be skilled at a game if it doesn't change or evolve.

Anyway sorry for the terribly long post but those are my thoughts on the new game and all the posts that are going up. Although I do agree there are some things that could be improved upon, I find all the gameplay aspects are perfect and maybe the movement speed could be an idea to test out although I don't think it is that much of an issue.

Yeah the DMR is really lame. Its so difficult in swat just to get a head shot. The point of swat is to see someone and have the faster reflexes to shoot them first. Even when i do this, i feel like i shoot them directly in the head, yet i am always missing. DMR SUCKS

I've felt so confident in swat that I have killed a player, turned away thinking that was it only to have that player I thought I've just shot in the head kill me. Maybe the learning curve here - lead shots by a fair amount (Lag?), aim for the mohawk like they should have one??!! Either way swat is horrible under Reach at least for me I don't feel satisfied playing it. The maps and spawns play a huge roll here too because neither cater to swat very well.

Just a suggestion guys, maybe the DMR isn't the gun for you, because in the right hands it can be deadly. Maybe you guys just need to play a different gun or a different style. I found that when I first started playing. You usually gotta adapt to how your team is playing.

Hope that helps a bit

For my two cents, I think the weapons are, for the most part, good, the level layouts force people to move around, and the armor abilities add a new layer to the franchise.

I do think the DMR is a worthless piece of stamped steel. It's a Designated Marskman Rifle, but it takes a full magazine to kill someone. If I was handed such a weapon in Iraq, I would have gently handed it back and stuck with an assault rifle. The DMR should possess about half of the power of the normal sniper rifle: this would mean two or three shots would kill anyone. If the weapon's name stays the same, then the weapon's potential should match the name.

Another weapon that irks me is the plasma sword. It's a great weapon, and it has an awesome assassination animation, but it now takes two hits to kill someone will full shielding? If someone allows a sword-wielding enemy to get within strike range, that someone deserved to get their head lopped off.

My largest gripe with the game is this: Spartans are the best of the best for the UNSC, and Sanghelli are the true warriors of the Covenant, but I could replace their character models with those from any other FPS and I would get the same result. I don't feel like a genetically-altered, computer-assisted, energy-shielded tank on legs, and this is the one game where I should have that feeling.

Three ways to get an easy fix: enable grenade throw-back, allow all units to evade (maybe hold armor ability button and press jump?), and allow these super soldiers to block a hastily-thrown punch or buttstock strike. Give these awesome characters some life, rather than rewarding people who simply grab the grav hammer go on a killing frenzy.

/rant

Overall, I think the beta is awesome. Reach shows incredible potential, and I am eager to experience the campaign on co-op. Well done so far, Bungie, and I hope you are able to give the gaming community a final Halo huzzah that will keep people talking for a very, very long time.

Yah, i've posted about how Bungie rather you feel like a little wimpy kid than a super soldier before. I don't understand why they choose to do this, it's really something I'd like a response from the heads of the design team.

Yeah but im sure the Iraqis dont have power armour that protects them. im sure the DMR kills unprotected humans in one hit

Agreed, Elixir. Once you peel away the insanely powerful weapons and the new-found armor abilities, this game is merely a race to see who can drop whose shield first. It's a race that ends only in death. There seems to be no such thing as a perfect match, where you get 20 or 25 kills and never die. That, as far as I am concerned, takes more skill than draining someone's shielding and pummeling them first or, when you know death is imminent, dropping a grenade at your feet.

Of course, this is merely a personal observation. Halo is what it is.

A point well made, HellCat. In the context of the beta, I'll leave the DMR against the wall and take my chances with a sticky grenade and an AR.

I've seen the DMR used with expertise, but the weapon's power isn't as ominous as the name suggests.

Elixer is right on the money about all of these subjects, especially the DMR. Anybody who thinks the bloom is just something to get used to, probably isn't good enough to get four-shots in Halo 3, and is used to letting kills slip away. If I'm going to miss a head shot, I want it to be my fault, not the game randomly deciding for me.

I don't really think that the armor lock isn't balanced. What to do when someone turns invincible... run away i'd think(sprint), though there are tons of ways to deal with it. I guess that sometimes going into to armor lock kind of messes you up but you kind of have to know what it's best used for. I'd say for the most part it's more of a team oriented thing. Enemies will plot their scheme of taking you down as soon as you pop out of armor lock ,your teammates can slaughter said hopeless individuals with ease... fun!!! Funniest part about this post though is that i never even use armor lock, But honestly i think armor lock isn't pointless and you really have to use it in appropiate situations for it to be effective. Also, if they do tune down the grenades in the full game the spamming at armor lockers won't be quite as major.

I'm coming from playing a far more complex game (ShadowRun) in terms of control layout.

ShadowRun is the greatest FPS of all time. Not even Halo CE or Halo 2 can touch SR.

I was hoping that Reach would play like ShadowRun with these new classes but from what I am hearing this is far from the truth.

Lawlz, i mean i totally logged tremendous hours into a low populated online only game with horrible graphics, instead of beating The Library on Legendary. I hope bungie knows who to listen to on these forums

Count me in too, altough I have to say they should give a better indication to what level and side you're on(For example red side, level 4).

halo reach beta= bong rips all day

I play Reach as "Dr Janosz Poha" and have over 100 matches (almost all ranked) and have a serious gripe with only one element.

The H1-2-3 shield system was far more skill based than this new double hack and grin system. Reach's shield system severely narrows the skill gap...............

(Example: Two opponents meet at mid range, one fires A.R. rounds on approach and does 95% damage to the shield by the moment of beat. The other man fires with the same weapon but only does 35% damage by the moment of melee. They collide and back up, each pressing the melee at the same moment. They are now tied on damage and spamming their beat button to end their opponent's life.....they end in a tie)

Whats wrong with this picture?

The Reach Shield System penalizes players who use bullets on approach to weaken the player in front of them before they arrive UNTIL the shield is depleted.(which often isn't possible and completely new to the HALO concept)

Please BUNGIE give us back the shield system that has built you a foothold to world domination.

Pretty please...

I honestly couldnt have said it better myself, its a huge issue and needs to be fixed, bungie should forget about noobs and stick to keeping its dedicated fans happy, cause without them they would still be making horrible games like oni.........

take ARs out

---I love the BR, but 90% of the time the BR would win a fight over AR, rocket, sniper, spartan laser, and so on. That's a little overpowered, isn't it? And the CoD comparison was just plain mean.---

It depends on how you use some of those different guns. In a 1v1 battle with someone would you not want a Rocket? This is besides the point. No cross hair. No consistancy. The DMR would be a decent substitute for the BR if it had less of a reticule bloom. It seems as though best weapon to have in reach is your grenade or your melee. Im not asking for a dominant gun to have, but a more consistant gun like the BR.

I agree with the OP on everything he said except the DMR bloom. I find that the DMR could use a smiged of more ammo in a clip 2-3 extra is my suggestion. A thing I will add to this is the armor lock super ability of Jesus, please put armor lock in only gametypes with vehicles cause essentially thats what it's for: THE VEHICLE COUNTER. Armor Lock in One Flag on Powerhouse I use all the time while defending though so I must call myself a hippocrite but at least I admit to it. Anyways I would prefer Armor Lock in Gametypes like invasion, with vehicles I just hope that Bungie will hear me out on my Armor Lock point because during slayer it's annoying as hell.

You mean like labeling them somehow? It's already there, just not very big. The levels are numbered and the sides are lettered A/B.

one side blue neon lighting, the other side red.

There, fixed :P

Also, on main topic, I completely agree with all the points out there, except the shotgun. Imho, slight range nerf, slight damage boost. Other than that, spot on. Grenade nerf AND movement speed increase would be nice. Spawning with one grenade would make grenade spamming less common, hopefully.

A beautiful post...

I agree almost completely, having logged just under 150 matches I found Reach to be fast paced, graphically immaculate and far more varied than any of the previous Halo titles. More importantly, I found Reach was just plain fun.

So there are things certain people abhor Reach for. I for one, am glad Bungie have made these changes. When the final build is shipped and all of the many game breaking bugs are fixed, I will happily finish my payment of $200 AUS for the Legendary edition because I want what Bungie has striven so hard to create.

If you dislike "this and that" you have two options, and they are as plain as daylight. 1. Deal with it. 2. Don't buy or play Reach.

I don't mind if we lose some of the wingers because frankly, what are they doing for anyone? I want a game without spammers and haters, is that too hard to ask?

Bungie had me stumped at the release of Halo 3 and I had played it solidly until I had a taste of the Reach Beta. Reach is a fresh breath and I like everything about it.

Thanks again Aidanounski for your post, it says everything I wanted to say and more.

Let's be civil and somewhat adult about this. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
