But Bungie is basically saying now you are obligated to finish this game OR BE BANNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I am not having fun in the game such as I am getting betrayed, teammates consistently commit suicide, or its just not the game I am into, then I think I reserve the right to quit. I thought Bungie made this game for recreational purposes, not some kind of job that I have to sit behind.

Being a college student, (a military college might I add) I have many obligations and I find myself leaving games from time to time. Even though I love Halo and have supported it all the way through, Bungie feels the need to punish me because I ruined a game? Like who is honestly being the cry baby here. The guy who quit, or the players who are complaining cause they lost? Hypocrisy at its best I guess.
You won't get penalized, buddy. Habitual quitters will. So if you quit your last 6 games in a row, you might get a soft ban. And Bungie can determine who is quitting legitimately and who is quitting just because. If you don't like a game, quit. Just don't give them a reason to think you are suspicious by quitting game after game after game

I think bungie should do what Call of duty does
make quitting count as a loss not a loss in EX or rank

That implies that I give a crap about my win/loss ratio.

I definitely don't think that people should get banned for quitting, but like yamabara and I said ... just make a timeout penalty. It is reasonable. If I'm playing CTF and some kid on my team is getting killed and then he rage quits ... why should I take a almost guaranteed loss because some kid can't control his temper.

the only games i quit out of are really laggy ones, thats like one in three, i dont think i should get banned for not being able to play the game. I would wait 3 minutes to play again but i wouldnt want a ban for it.

it seems like it will definately help keep people from quiting. but it seems like it wont keep casual quiters from quiting. There should be a 3 minute wait for quiting no matter what with more serious countermeasures later.

I just want to say that poker sites do the same thing to stop people from going all in with play money... it doesn't work.

Actually the banning thing i think will not work
Cause Bungie won't be able to tell the Difference
Between lagging out of games
or if someone is actually quitting so
i don't think this banning people
for quitting thing will work.

Cause if people got banned cause there
internet lagged them out of games, then Bungie might
actually get allot of hate mail From
allot of angry people out there for being banned
for being lagged out of games and thats no
Reason for being banned

A big penalty would be nice. Im all for droping them a level or 2, but even something smaller would help like takeing away 1000 Cr sounds good. Also taking away the leave game option would probably be a good deterrent. But you are gonna make the penalty apply to disconnects too so people arnt just turning off their xboxs.

The majority of the Halo population do not quit for ranks, the majority of the Halo population do not quit for stats, and the majority of the Halo population certainly do not quit for no reason.

We do not quit very often: infact most of our quits are either due to crappy connection, or very unfair matches. Both of which SHOULD be eliminated by MatchMaking. In the cases that MatchMaking fails to eliminate those incredibly frustrating factors, We will quit, regardless.

Why should we be PUNISHED for the System's faults?

Maybe Bungie should focus on implanting a fairer MatchMaking, than punish their customers for what their game fails to do. Im sure the Majority of Halo players do not enjoy quitting, and will not quit unless they get a totally -blam!- game.

My Point is, If Bungie actually took time to fix matchmaking, instead of using their Hammer "aggressively". The quitting problem would be much alleviated.

You could always go Action Sack style (before they implemented the EXP loss). But it doesn't work in reality.

Special pre-emptive note: Online game designers are familiar with "virtual guilt", whereby a perfectly upstanding, innocent player will feel irrationally nervous and guilty upon hearing about a potential punishment. And now, you're familiar with the concept too. Well, relax. We are very deliberate about our enforcement policies, and if you're not a habitual quitter, we're not going to ban you for that one time that your internet cut out. And if it cuts out every game, well, you should probably use the downtime between games to call your ISP and get a technician out. It'll be for the greater good.

// || \\ Giggity.

Suggestion: If a player quits, his teammates are prompted to say whether it was "valid" or not. If the teammate is voted by majority "valid," the banhammer takes this into consideration (not fully rescinding the possibility of punishment, seeing as a bunch of friends could go in, quit, and vote each other valid to avoid the ban). If the player is not voted valid, it doesn't harshen the punishment/possibility of punishment (because of possibly abuse issues), but just has no effect.

i agree. Once someone has quit the game. The odds of the team(of the person who quit) Are slim to none. It's near impossible. Yes i understand there are times you win but makee the penalty harsher.

That's why you make it like COD, where at any point in the game you can join in. With that method, the odds are always in favour.

I like the idea of the mild ban for the users that quit frequently for preventative measures.

My feedback however would be for what to do with the remaining players. If the game results in, as I've been on the receiving end of before in previous Halo games, one versus eight there should be some sort of intervention by the game system to support that lone soldier. In the method of the mentioned "sudden death" concept or perhaps a weakening of the enemy player's shields or an immediate juggernaut style of play where it takes all eight people working as a team to kill the one.

I think that it would be pretty neat even if the game ended up being four versus eight but with the four being basically equivalent to two people each or the eight being equivalent to four.

Maybe if playing a slayer variant one kill from the quitter's team results in the equivalent difference in players. So one versus eight, the one gets seven or eight kill points for one kill. This idea seems less useable and more whine friendly.

That's pretty much my feedback on quitting and things that should be done. I really don't care what happens to the quitter; what I, and to assert most people, care about is what happens to the players still playing the game.

THE DEFINATIVE REASON WHY THIS WON'T WORK

You assume that these quitters who ruin your game are the same persons constantly following you into each game. Which is not the case.

The guy who quit on you in this game...is not the same guy who quit on you in the next game...and then the guy who quit on the next game after that is not the same as the previous two.

But you're still affected and put in the spot of playing the match out at a disadvantage or following suit. If you can't see how a regular player might have to put up with this scenario multiple times in a row then you clearly don't know how to look at the big picture.

Coming up with a solution that bans people will end up punishing people who are not even at fault for what you are trying to punish for.

um i got a problem with the quitting time outs because what if you like have to go or if your mom calls XD not that i am one of those (mom died :/ ) so i dont see how that would be fair to those players

I think its a good idea but it could have some flaws... i play halo ALOT but sometimes i need to eat dinner or lunch and have to leave the game... i won't like it when i need to go to a birthday or go outside with my friends and then have a day's suspension from halo just because i have a life and need to go outside once in a while. but it's annoying if i need to leave for something in real life and then can't play online or lose a rank i mean sometimes a leave (rarely though) and i don't think it might really work since adult gamer's have jobs and Girlfriends and family to take care of and teen gamers have friends to play with. i don't understand why people think its good to have suspension for hours when you have an emergency?

If you have to go somewhere, you shouldn't be bothered by a timeout since you won't be there anyway.

So many people use the excuse that they had to go somewhere. My question for these people is, why did you start a game when you knew had to leave for something in the first place.

What are you all talking about?!! Quitting gives you the ultimate test of your skills. When the rest of your team has abandoned yu and you stand alne against four, nothing is a bigger test of your halo skill!!!! Of course some gametypes like CTF would be much more difficult but a person could still win! I've been stuck in many games where it ends up 1v4 but I still ahng in there and let me tell ya, I've won about 75% of those games!

If someone calls

An emergency

Bad planning

There are many reasons ... I've had a class and thought i could fit in a game before my class and had to quit because of bad planning. The fact is I bought the game and pay to play online and shouldn't be harshly punished for quitting. A timeout is a very acceptable and fair punishment but a xp loss or ban are way to harsh and unfair

In a 1v4 ... it doesn't make you skilled it makes you annoying to the TO4 because ... we wan't to play a legit game not hide and seek with a person who can't get a hint.

I think there should be a banning period for those people who are split up from their party and feel the need to ruin the game for the opposing team. I can't tell you how many times I have had a team-killing jerk on my team because they were too big of babies to fight their party members. Losers like that ruin the game for others and should be penalized. There should be some sort of automated complaint system that takes your complaint, views the circumstances, and decides what sort of punishment is needed, if any. If it saw that a person was in a party with people on the other team and was team-killing, it could punish them. Of course it isn't always that simple, but it would be nice to have an option to ban jerks like that for a short amount of time.

I think a forfeit option is a must for the Arena if 50% of your team quits on you. Or maybe a vote for forfeit option if your team is so inclined. You could use the latter if you are getting blown out and decide to take the loss without a serious hit to your k/d ration if you are clearly outgunned. The vote in that instance should have to be unanimous.

If the voting system for maps and gametype were improved it would lead to less quitting. The votes should only count if you manually select the map. I have forgotten to vote too may times because I was looking at stats.

I dont see what the purpose is of putting in a quit option if Bungie is gonna punish you for it.

Because there are times when a quit option is appropriate, such as your house catching on fire, but that doesn't mean you should abuse it. Plus, people would find a way to quit out of games without a quit option.
