Hello! Please use this thread to give feedback on the Reach: Beta Banhammer, Quitting Timeouts, and similar issues. Please take the time to create a well-thought-out, well-written, and descriptive post. "Quitting penalties suck" or "banhammer rulz" is not a helpful post.

Please do not report bugs here. Please instead use this thread to report any banhammer glitches, bugs, and problems (posting videos, screenshots, and ways to replicate the problem is encouraged in that thread).

All forum rules apply and will be enforced in this thread. Please play nice :-)

The rules Read them!!!

Penalty for quitting like a big one. Try gears 2 they take like 1 thousand i think well i know they make it so you don't wanna quit. I don't like the time for betrays i know it discourages it but i think it should be i don't know maybe not there or the person who got betrayed should be able to choose if they get the time or not because sometimes its by accident.

Big D

i agree. Once someone has quit the game. The odds of the team(of the person who quit) Are slim to none. It's near impossible. Yes i understand there are times you win but makee the penalty harsher.

I seem to have a lot of my random Battle Bros in Invasion quit out on me within the first 30-45 seconds of a match. I can't think that it has anything to do with the tide of the battle at that point, the game has just begun. Is there some kind of host situation happening behind the scenes between the matched players on each squad?

I love the soft ban! Now extend its range to betrayers and mic jerks that receive bad feedback and Reach could be the cleanest game in the series

I think the repetitive quitter time out is a good idea, but it needs a bit of refining.

It could be something like social where they're getting matched against people that destroy them or they have a poor connection. There needs to be something like that.

Maybe if your k/d is past a certain point, like -20 spread? or your connection is on red bar and you quit the time out won't apply. It's pretty easily abused tho.

But I like it so far. Seeing less half empty half full games

Also, why not a teamkilling timeout?
Kicked from 2 games = 15 minutes
3 games in a nite (after the 15 minute, another kick) 30 mins
4 a nite, 1 hour

ect

Rebellion in small things to let the world know I haven't surrendered.

I love the idea of a Matchmaking timeout. It will discourage a lot of people. I think it should be set so that the more you quit, the bigger the timeout-as much as a day, or a week even.
I also definitely like the idea of a game ending if a certain number of players quit from one team. It reallys sucks when most of your team quits and you still have to wait it out and just get your k/d ruined. Especially because a lot of people out there like to not finish objective games if they see a chance to just kill outnumbered players.

it seems like it will definately help keep people from quiting. but it seems like it wont keep casual quiters from quiting. There should be a 3 minute wait for quiting no matter what with more serious countermeasures later.

Quitting makes some games unplayable. It's annoying and if too many people leave, the game should automatically end. But some games like SWAT are easier to win when you're alone. Of course if you;'re skilled with the DMR.

This is off topic but yeah that gears really messed me up! I lagged out of my first ever online match and I got around -6million or something like that, I was stuck at level 1 forever, so I sold it.

But I love the idea of quitting timeouts!

I dont see what the purpose is of putting in a quit option if Bungie is gonna punish you for it.

i think the best thing is to just block matchmaking for 30 minutes everytime someone quits. if they needed to go take care of some irl business, they won't even notice the 1/2 hour ban. Those who quit because they were down 10 points will have a half hour to think about how they should have stuck it out.

I only really see the need for a penalty for quitters in ranked matches. In social matches it would not really matter if people could join in progress. Just make it so they don't get as many points for leaving in the middle of the match.

Am I missing a leg, or did I even have it to begin with?

My pet peeve: If you're going to quote me, do it right. My words of epicness don't belong to anyone else but me.

Halo Reach Beta Q&A Thread

No I don't have any Beta codes. Sorry :(

I don't think I should be banned at all for quitting for whatever reason. Unless I'm quitting out of 10-20 games a day, I should only lose credits or whatever and get on with my play.

If I'm not having fun, or if my internet sucks, I shouldn't be banned.

Well it discourages you from quitting but the option may be because your friend might wanna play and you having a bad game anyway i would guess.

Were it so easy.

Only people who quit EXCESSIVELY (like more than 15% of their total games played or maybe just 10%).

It's only a big deal if you quit a lot. They want you to stay in the game, but quitting a few times isn't going to harm you in any way. If you are quitting enough times to get the soft ban, maybe you need to take a brake anyways so you don't nerd rage your head off.

The only real solution would be a timeout. I think that it would be extremely unfair to take credits away from the player because people sometimes lag out or have to leave. What if someone has an emergency or starts a game and then has to go somewhere. A timeout penalty would affect people who rage quit and try to go back into matchmaking, but it wouldn't affect people who have to quit for personal reasons.

But Bungie is basically saying now you are obligated to finish this game OR BE BANNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I am not having fun in the game such as I am getting betrayed, teammates consistently commit suicide, or its just not the game I am into, then I think I reserve the right to quit. I thought Bungie made this game for recreational purposes, not some kind of job that I have to sit behind.

Being a college student, (a military college might I add) I have many obligations and I find myself leaving games from time to time. Even though I love Halo and have supported it all the way through, Bungie feels the need to punish me because I ruined a game? Like who is honestly being the cry baby here. The guy who quit, or the players who are complaining cause they lost? Hypocrisy at its best I guess.

The Night when the moon is full and the sky is Black, I will come for you.

I don't quit much but i do sometimes. Not because the gametype or map but because i have other things to do and don't want to burden my partners, and if my parners suck or kill steal to much. I don't think i should get banned from that.

I do agree with the timeout ban though it will keep constant quiter from doing this.

I think bungie should do what Call of duty does
make quitting count as a loss not a loss in EX or rank

Working for Davik was like driving a spike through the side of your head... Sure you get something new in there, but in the end, you've lost something as well. -Canderous Ordo

I don't think there should be any penalty for people leaving. Not everyone rage quits. Sometimes the internet goes out, a friend hops on that we want to join (not half an hour later), or we actually have something more important to do than play video games.

Instead of spending so much time and effort on finding ways to punish people, it should be invested in a drop in drop out system for players so that people quitting won't even be an issue anymore.

Also, having people being able to simply choose what gametype they play instead of voting for it will probably cut down on the quitting to begin with.
