For Spartan vs. Elites, Take away the plasma pistol as the secondary weapon for the elites. It makes the elites too OP with the noob combo. Make it so they start with the DMR and Needle Rifle and it will be more evenly matched.

Personal settings suggestion:

I like how you have given us the ability to chose what kind of players we are looking for in our matchmaking searches. But what would be nice is if the same preferences could be applied to what kind of games we play.

Here is an example-

Lets say you want to play some team style flag game. Single and double flag are fine. Even Stock pile would be accepted. But lets say you wanted to keep away from Territory style games.

You could go to your game search personal settings, un-check "Territories" and when the games are pulled up (as long as the rest of your group has unchecked it) it won't appear in possible games to vote on.

Removing game types could be limited to removing up to maybe 40% of available games in a playlist. That way players would still have plenty to vote on.

I believe that it would allow players to play in game types that they are more comfortable in playing. No one likes getting stuck in a game type that they already know they can't handle, or have tried and don't like. Which in turn would make their gaming experience more enjoyable.

Just my opinion I wanted to share.

I just fired up Halo 3 for the first time since Reach Beta and wow was the Reach Beta match making so much faster. I'm sure I'm not the first to say this. But while waiting to find a game I can harvest my farm. I don't know when I'm going to get my farming done when reach comes out!

I think there should be a team headhunter in reach and the scoring zone in stockpile should move every time the scoring timer is up.

The Elite shields are far stronger than Spartan shields. I know Bungie is just trying to make it feel more like an even matching by raising the shield power of the significantly larger enemy, but if I have to reload a DMR just to kill off an Elite's shield, than it is far too strong. Please keep the Elite shields similar to Spartan shields.
Another different thing I noticed is that fragmentation grenades have become super powered. The blast radius has been widened, I understand, but if a random or well thrown grenade falls at my feet then want to be able to survive, even if it only wipes out my shields. Frag grenade= overpowered.

Make the active roster better. Increase font size and show FULL party details when you click on friends without having to join them.

Some legit people will want to do this. I enjoy playing against my friend (who may not even own an xbox) and other people at the same time. I don't want to be forced to be on the same team. It was available before and I don't think its gonna be taken out as well as I will be slightly disappointed if it was taken out.

My impression of the matchamaking and settings is that I like the idea of a reviewing system but it would get exploited and you could get some skewed results either from people not reviewing or reviewing inaccurately. I think they should just require people to pick their settings.

I think they should also add if you don't select a vote it doesn't count and a warning when voting is starting and ending.

The top map/gametype in matchmaking should be random, that way we don't get the same things over and over if people don't vote. (e.g. Invasion every time and no Invasion Slayer, etc.)

The should be a way to avoid being teamed up with players in party chat - maybe try to team up players with headsets
I hate being the only one on my team that is out of the loop. Playing with a silent team is surprisingly less fun than one would expect.

I found matchmaking great. The new matching system was fast and the new match settings are a great idea.

The voting system is good except when the top one gets chosen by default. I didnt experience lag except when someone decided to leave the game.

Also, I noticed that if you get top 4 in a FFA game, you get a victory bonus. However, it does NOT count as a win under games played vs. games won. Please fix!

i think thats ok, becausem come on, you know you havent won and you get just a little more bonus from it. i think the social settings are quite useless. mostly in halo, because you cant join a game in progress (which would be better because you find games faster and people quitting isnt as bad) you simply go for the quicker option. unless you getting super lag games and you need to have good conection, otherwise its just not going to work. the only way that could work is if you make it so you can join in game.

i also think, on a small note, that you should be able to tell when ur about to find players, when uve already found some, so your not waiting forever. that, or just put down how many people r playing in that playlistb at that time, so you know roughly how long a wait ur in for.

you should also get rid of the booting system because its too easy to beat and doesnt work well. you should make it if you betray someone enough, you get banned for 1/2 an hour like the quitter ban. the quitter ban is a great idea but i think there should also be a betraying ban, like the quitter ban. betrayin ruins team objective game especially. people always betrayed to get flag oddball or weapon. unless you turn betraying off for team objective games, then you should make a ban on it like the quitter ban. you guys talk about how these new updates are meant to increase teamwork, well this one would make all ur updates even more effective, because people wont betray all the time or be afaid of being betrayed. the best option would be to TURN BETRAYING OFF FOR TEAM OBJECTIVE GAMES as that is the primary source of it, or put quitter ban on it. this way, u will see alot more teamwork, even from players who have just met and arent in a party! SO TURN BETRAYING OFF FOR TEAM OBJECTIVE GAMES OR PUT A BAN ON IT LIKE QUITTER BAN. THE BOOTING SYSTEM DOESNT WORK AND SHOULD BE REMOVED AND REPLACED BY BETRAYING BAN OR SIMPLY TURN BETRAYING OFF!!!!!!!!!! seriously, it would make halo a better game and TEAM WORK WOULD SKYROCKET! trust me, it would and you know it would too.

all in all, matching making needs some work bungie, so keep trying. we want to make to last halo game the best!

also make it so you can run faster. the running is too slow and in real life, a spartan would run much faster. so make it you can run faster and sprint faster.

and tone down the grenades. they can kill a spartan one shot, unless the spartan has full health and shields. so reduce the strength but not the radius, just the strength.

i was very happy with the improved matchmaking settings but i have one personal request for general settings: please bring back the "4 diamonds" emblem background!!! i know the beta probably didn't showcase all the emblems but my classic snake emblem looked very empty with the current selection. also was wondering why emblems no longer appear on the character model, i always enjoy customization!

-Matchmaking needs a small indicator on the bottom of the screen that tells you how it's going. It's easy to miss the vote when you are reading the carnage report or such. Especially because the chime for "matchmaking starts" and "match found" is the exact same.

-Votes shouldn't default to any option.

-In FFA games, give a service record win for top half. That way FFA won't screw the win/loss record on your service record.

-Please put an indicator on the black screen of death that tells why it's there. Simply knowing the difference between "host quit" and "you lag, time to die" would be enough.

I Hope that I am not too late to post here but I will try anyway.

Hi I am new to these forums and have not as yet found an official forum relating to the improvements needed for Reach Beta. As such I have decided to past this message in all the forms relating to this topic in the hopes that Bungie will look at one of them, so here goes.

Aside from some lag and glitchy game play, I have been very impressed with the Halo Reach Beta.
There are a few aspects that I would like to see improved though.

1.) I believe that the Assault Rifles damage should be marginally increased as it takes 1 full clip to lower a player's shield and then to finish them off, you either have to beat them down twice or pull out your pistol. This would be fine except for the fact that players using pistols against you can kill you in 4 to 5 shots to the head, so you usually end up dead just as you have lowered their shields with your assault rifle.

2.) I would also really like the Targeting reticule used for the Pistol to either be less transparent, darker or thicker as when you start firing it becomes almost impossible to see it over your opponent's head, this causes you to miss many valuable shots sometimes.

3.) The grenade's explosive radius is far too large, It can kill you from 3 metres away(might be lag)1 can kill you even if you have only lost only 1 third of your shielding.

4.) The game type Generator defence is very enjoyable, except for the extreme lag one often gets which is probably due to the network testing, the only problem I can find with it though is that you can lock and relock the reactors far too quickly. I think that there should be a bar at the bottom of the screen when locking one down, like the ones used for returning a flag.
It should take more than a second to lock them down and they should not be destroyed in 5 to 6 melee strikes.

5.) I believe that the elites should be a little faster than they are now. This would make it more challenging to kill one running and would also fit the book description better. I am not suggesting that you make them twice as fast as a Spartan or make them impossible to catch on foot but just a little faster so that when playing as an Elite you can notice the difference in speed more than when you are playing as a Spartan.

Aside from these issues I believe that Reach is a great game from what I have seen in the Beta and I really like the new emphasis placed on team work. The game play and graphics are smooth and stunning and the combat is fresh. All in all it looks like a great game and I can't wait to play the full version of it.

this is the only time i will ever compare COD to Halo. The one thing i wish bungie would do to fix AFK's is make it to where if you dont move or fire your weapon in say a minute or so then you automatically get removed from the game. not penalized bc someone may be stuck on the crapper or still enjoying his huge rip from some dank glass. but there are way too many times when i get into a game that i really want to win and there are 2 45's on my team that i kno could help bu they want to derank and dont play which causes me to lose. if they would get kicked then that would be awesome. i know everyone would like that. with that being said some ppl have made it to where they just jump in their spawn point as an AFK. so if they jump then they wouldnt get booted bc they are moving constanly. so it should be if they dont shoot or try to interact at all then they should be removed for no play.

Matchmaking was alright, with limited options and stages available I felt it handled changing things up quite nicely. The added voting was particularly a great enhancement, but I agree if a player doesn't actually attempt to vote due to being in menus or otherwise that their vote shouldn't be counted. Their vote being stuck on the first map option makes the choice of voting by those paying attention weaker. The choics given are numerous enough to keep everyone happy for the most part in my week or so of playing, just moved and couldn't get to play without internet connection and then once it was activated and all hooked my 360 wouldn't read the discs until I took it all apart and dusted the lens and manually slid the lens back and forth to reduce the strain, weak motors I am guessing. Way off point though, suffice to say my even more limited time with the game was highly enjoyed and all seemed well in the world for the brief moments of fragging, lol.

I've noticed a few issues with the matchmaking. For example, I select "Good time" for motivation and "Polite" for the tone, and I get put in a list with team killing sore losers who swear to shame a sailor over anything from getting fragged to someone else having a load out weapon that they wanted to have, but obviously did not pick. These are behaviors I would expect in the "Winning" and "Rowdy" categories. I'm not entirely sure what criteria are used to seperate the respectful players from the loud-mouthed, trash-talking individuals who treat losing a video game like a life threatening disorder. I won't even go into my disdain for the alarming percentage of prepubescent offenders. Parents, teach your kids some manners before they mouth off to someone who won't have any issues with rearranging their faces.

Another issue I hope can be fixed is that parties get split. Myself and my brother were on one console and I had invited a friend to join the party over LIVE. From what I've seen, in team slayer party members are kept on the same team, and with there being three of us we comprised a full team for the generator defense, but when we went into Invasion we were never all on the same team. I know that invasion is divided into two-man "fire teams" but just because there's too many of us for a single fire team that doesn't mean two should be spartans that the third is made an elite, or vice versa. Party members should be kept in the same team, or at least be given the option of staying teamed up or being split.
