Couldn't find a topic for this, but just a couple suggestions......constructive of course.

Post Game Carnage Report:
I spend a lot of time looking at all the stats after each game. I like the layout of stats and the navigation. I do have some observations/suggestions though.

First off, I don't see the need to have a player's character on the screen when you select that player to look at their individual stats. This takes up room for other information. Plus you've seen their character in the game. If I really want to see their armor perms, I'll look at their service record. Please don't force me.

I noticed that there is no quantity listed of the medals that were achieved in the game. (It could go to the right on each medal name, but this area obscured by the character.) I would like to know how many "Close calls" or "Opportunist" medals I had in the last game.

Also I noticed that there is no description for the "Death from the Grave" medal. (I know what it is, but just for the newbies.)

Perhaps it would be possible to see each players most used or favorite "Load-out"? It would be interesting to see which "Load-out" the winner chose or used the most. If there were no choosing "Load-outs" (like Classic Slayer), then the favorite "Load-out" would be default. (This info can be placed to the right of the acquired medal section if the character was removed.)

Lastly, while looking at post game stats, I'm automatically voting for the first option on the next game. I know that there is a sound when all players are pooled to vote, but when I'm talking about the last game with others, sometimes I'll miss it. I would like to see an icon or something on screen showing me that voting is starting or about to start.

Voting:
This new voting system is AWESOME! So many options plus "None of the above". Perfect. Well, almost perfect...

This kind of goes with my last comment on post game stats, but on the other side of people not paying attention. When players are pooled to vote, everyone is automatically voting for the first option. I understand that something has to be chosen and that's where the people paying attention come into play. Everyone should start on "Neutral". The ones paying attention can cast their vote, and the players that are away lose their vote. (Or it counts toward "Neutral") Of course the one with the most votes still wins. "Neutral" votes would go towards the majority. If you make it so that votes aren't counted until a player presses "A", those "Sleepers" don't get to vote. I just think that's more fair to the people who pay attention.

Well that's it. I hope some (or all) of these suggestions are helpful. I would love to see these suggestions taken seriously by Bungie, but it's their game and they can do what they want.

These are just my opinions.
Thanks for reading.

P.S.(My only game play gripe)
If the jump isn't going to be that high, why make steps that are difficult to jump over? Like on Powerhouse, the long concrete step near the focus rifle spawn. I've died numerous times trying to score skulls but can't jump over that damn step to get there. It's the same thing going into that shower area (where the grenade launcher spawns) from the circular pool of water. People struggle to move over these things, it's not just me.

I would have to say that my main beef with Reach right now is the beat down. I understand the glitchy area of effect will pan out before the game goes gold, as with all the animations and creation zones for grenades and bullets (simply put: bullets don't come from heads, and grenades get thrown at the top of the arc, not from your characters hip, all things that truly affect accuracy). But my problem stems from the speed I the beat down combined with the lunge. It allows a player who has been completely outmanuevred to make his attacker simply accept that they both have to die if the lesser of the two can close the gap before his shields are depleted. One of the main tactics ever player has practiced throughout all Halo games is the beat and fade. In these cases, even if both players manage to pull off a beat down (and even with Reachs new shield system, which I don't mind, it makes sense that any sheilds would turn a ouch into a glancig blow) the player that can pull back and pull off the better shots on the other (ie the player with more skill) will be awarded. Instead, even with the drop a player is often relegated to accepting mutual death. I'm not sure what the exac solution to this problem is, be it slowing down the timing on throwing a second or decreasing the lunge distance, but I hurts to know that the point of the sprint for a seeming majority of people is simply to run Up and go for the double beat down. It kind of spoils the game, more than the unbalanced AL. I do hope Im not the only one who is concerned that Reach might be filled with tools of abuse for the already too terribly -blam!--tastic community that populated this game. I know there are true believers out there, speak so we may be heard. And Bungie, please listen. Thanks for giving us this opportunity to affect what will most assuredly be the next three years of most of our lives, it was an experience.

Either decrease the Health, or make the assault rifle stronger as the person with the stronger weapon (eg shotgun) will always win. Unlike in Halo 3 where the assault rifle was effective.

1.TAKE THE BLOOM OUT!

2.Make the Spartans jump higher.

3.Make their moving speed much faster.

4.Keep Stosh away from this game!

Overall Bungie, I loved the Beta - thank you for letting us sample it.

I loved virtually everything, only minor niggle was Sword blocking (don't agree with it) and using Armor Lock multiple times (imo should be a one use then recharge regardless of duration used).

Other than that loved it - not been this hyped for a game in ages and thats from a 34 year old who gave up console MP and moved to PC some years ago! :)

Edit: The voting system - generally liked it but would prefer it if once you vote you cannot change it - the mad everyone changing their vote that happens near the end of the countdown is annoying

Luck.

-Fall damage is inconsistent. A drop from bulkheads may leave you unscathed, or kill you (suicide!) if you roll down.

I Hope that I am not too late to post here but I will try anyway.

Hi I am new to these forums and have not as yet found an official forum relating to the improvements needed for Reach Beta. As such I have decided to past this message in all the forms relating to this topic in the hopes that Bungie will look at one of them, so here goes.

Aside from some lag and glitchy game play, I have been very impressed with the Halo Reach Beta.
There are a few aspects that I would like to see improved though.

1.) I believe that the Assault Rifles damage should be marginally increased as it takes 1 full clip to lower a player's shield and then to finish them off, you either have to beat them down twice or pull out your pistol. This would be fine except for the fact that players using pistols against you can kill you in 4 to 5 shots to the head, so you usually end up dead just as you have lowered their shields with your assault rifle.

2.) I would also really like the Targeting reticule used for the Pistol to either be less transparent, darker or thicker as when you start firing it becomes almost impossible to see it over your opponent's head, this causes you to miss many valuable shots sometimes.

3.) The grenade's explosive radius is far too large, It can kill you from 3 metres away(might be lag)1 can kill you even if you have only lost only 1 third of your shielding.

4.) The game type Generator defence is very enjoyable, except for the extreme lag one often gets which is probably due to the network testing, the only problem I can find with it though is that you can lock and relock the reactors far too quickly. I think that there should be a bar at the bottom of the screen when locking one down, like the ones used for returning a flag.
It should take more than a second to lock them down and they should not be destroyed in 5 to 6 melee strikes.

5.) I like the way that the elites are turning out, larger, faster stronger etc but I really don't like the new faces. It's more of an ascetic topic and I don't know if anyone else feels the same way but to me it seems that by removing the pupils and moving the eyes closer together, the resemble some cross eyed zombie. Also the ne new teeth are great but the lower mandibles should taper in more and not be in alignment with the upper mandibles, this causes the jaw too look more square rather than the squid like tentacle look that we all love and leaves a large gaping hole between them unlike in Halos 2 and 3 where the hole was barely visible and could only been seen on occasion from underneath.

6.) Also I believe that the elites should be a little faster than they are now. This would make it more challenging to kill one running and would also fit the book description better. I am not suggesting that you make them twice as fast as a Spartan or make them impossible to catch on foot but just a little faster so that when playing as an Elite you can notice the difference in speed more than when you are playing as a Spartan.

Aside from these issues I believe that Reach is a great game from what I have seen in the Beta and I really like the new emphasis placed on team work. The game play and graphics are smooth and stunning and the combat is fresh. All in all it looks like a great game and I can't wait to play the full version of it.

Thank you for your time.

I think that gameplay-wise assassinations are completely pointless.

It would make sense if they were the only way to kill someone with shields with a melee without a melee weapon like sword and hammer.

Hitting in the back, killing, is still in the game. SO WHY ASSASSINATE?

Too look cool. I get it. But Honestly it would be more satisfying if it was THE way to kill someone not the BAD way to kill someone.

If it is not changed, I really don't blame you. Maybe the game needs the instant kill hit like in previous Halo's. I just don't agree with instant kills and 2 second kills mished in the same hit-area.

On other note just to spread my basic opinions even farther - AR not even close to enough power. Armor lock too powerful. Shotgun is just right even though many complain about it's power, honestly it is underpowered in Halo 2 and 3. People just don't like change.

I would say more but this isn't the right category so I won't do waste-time paragraphs.

Can't wait for final game.

-War Moon.

Pro's:
Game voting and MM options and bringing back "Y menu" are awsome.

Weapons and special abilities are awsome.

Stock Pile, Hell Yeah! Sparans vs. Elites seemed awsome, but didn't get a chance to play it that much.

AR very good this time.

Cons:
Please keep regenerating health meter from H2 and H3. I don't even want to dream about chasing down health packs in MM.

What happened to the base and flag icons on the map? Having a goog map and knowing how to use it can be the difference between winning and loosing.

Asasinations are cool, but they take too long when every millasecond counts as it is.

Getting hurt from falling is ok when falling from a certian hieght from jet pack or banshee, but loosing health from falling from a place reached on foot or spawned from is bogus.

Bring back player vs. player in post game stats, it really helps for proof and trash talking. Also, it doesn't tell you how many of the same medal that you got, it only tells you that you got that medal.

The Plasma Launcher is just wrong!

Awsome game, can't wait!

The dagger thing lolz it's the 26th century daggers are in museums, though it'd be cool if there were other varieties of assassinations like stabbing them in the back and slicing upwards like assassins creed 2 sorta' style of assassinations that would be awesome!!!

the mute ban is terribly broken as hylebos said:

Posted by: Hylebos
Summary: Mute Bans in the Beta are broken, but don't bother fixing them, they aren't needed, and they aren't wanted in the final game.

I'll start off simple. Given some posts by Ferrex, you seem to be under the impression that if someone is mute banned, they will get notification telling them that they are mute banned, and that if their friends / random people want to hear them, they will be able to unmute you.

This is a complete falsehood. Nobody has ever gotten a notification that they are mute banned. We are left sitting around trying to figure out why nobody in matchmaking is talking. Is our headset broken? Did we accidentally set audio options to "Mute All"? Oh, and you said that our friends would be able to unmute us? No, no they can't. In order to talk to people, we are forced to use Party Chat.

However, I share these bugs not so that you can fix them in the final game. I do not want a mute ban at all in the final game. The concept behind the ban is flawed to it's core, and isn't worth pursuing, even if you think you can fix it.

First and foremost, did warning sirens in your heads not go off when you thought "Hey, let's make a banhammer which bans people completely from all communcations using only Subjective Evidence"? Because that's what mute bans are. Sure, you will end up getting all the racists annoying high-pitched players, but there is huge potential of people getting mute banned simply because other players do not like them. A lot of innocents have been and will be caught in the crossfire of the mute ban. And I don't care how much you are testing it to try to "make it safe", the benefits do not outweight the risks, so it isn't worth pursuing.

Tell me, how much time does it take to mute someone? Five seconds? Maybe ten seconds at most? That's all your mute ban is doing. It's saving people five seconds of effort. And the people who are banned are damned to hell. You might not realize this, but because we are automatically muted when we enter Matchmaking, the duality of the mute still applies, so not only can we speak, but we can't hear anybody else either. The completely shuts down all forms of team communcation. It's bad enough that we can't talk anymore, but now we can't even follow orders or gather information from the people who do have headsets? It's a joke.

Tell me, if I destroy my headset, and send you a video of it's destruction, can I get back the capabillity to listen to my team mate's frantic cries of "There's a guy with a sword behind you, kill him and we can win the game! You better not die or we will lose!" I would gladly burn my mic just so that I could hear people yell at me again.

And you do realize that most people don't even realize the Mute Ban is in effect in the beta, right? They do not appreciate the perfect utopia that you are trying to create from the shadows. A utopia where all the rude annoying players are rendered mute and deaf. In fact, most the players I've talked to think the mute ban is stupid. We aren't elementary students. We are adults. We can make informed decisions about who we want to hear and who we do not want to hear when playing matchmaking. What right do you have to decide who we should talk to for us?

I can understand why you would ban people for cheating. Cheating ruins the game, and players can't do anything about it, so it makes sense for you to step in and ban those players.

I can understand why you would ban people for boosting. Boosting ruins the game, and players can't do anything about it, so it makes sense for you to step in and ban those players.

I can understand why you would ban people for quitting. Quitting ruins the game, and players can't do anything about it, so it makes sense for you to step in and ban those players.

But no matter how I approach it, I can't understand why you would ban people with a mute ban. Annoying players may ruin the game, but players can easily solve the problem in five seconds. There is no need for you to step in and issue bans.

I started playing online games with Halo 3. Back then, I had a child account and no mics, and I was unable to hear anyone or speak to anyone, so I played the game in silence, ignorant to what players were saying around me. And I was happy. But when I upgraded to an adult account, I could finally hear what people were saying.

I was jealous, you know. They sounded like they were having a fun time, and I really wanted to join in and help out the team effort. So when the Beta came out, I went out and bought my first headset so I could finally participate with my team fully. I made sure to set my social preferences to look for chatty polite team players, so I wouldn't be pissing off people who prefered silent games.

I was in heaven. I was meeting all kinds of players, having fun, cracking jokes, enjoying the beta to the fullest. From my cloudy perch I looked back down on the earth that I was standing on only a few days ago and laugh at how silly a world without headsets were.

But then I got mutebanned. You robbed me not only of my voice, but my ears as well, sending me crashing down not to Earth, but straight to hell. It was like I had a child account again. The first think I thought to myself when I realized the awlful truth was "It would have been better if I had never bought a mic in the first place, at least I'd be able to still hear my team mates."

Do you know how bitter that makes me? I was feasting on the food of the gods, but it turned to ashes in my mouth and burned my throat. Mind, you, the process took several days as the denial and eventually horror of "I must be mute banned" set in, thanks to the fact that you forgot to add in that "You've been mute banned" notification.

Why was I mute banned? I don't have the foggiest idea. Nobody ever said my voice was annoying, or told me to shut up. To the best of my understanding, I got mute banned, because I was very talkative in Free For All. Apparently there is an unspoken rule there where "If you talk, you are going to get muted, because people like playing free for all without someone trying to make polite conversation in their ear."

Oh sure, there is a mute all option that I'm sure you expected these players to take advantage of, but they didn't, they just manually mute people. And thus, because I greeted everyone prior to a match, wished them a good game, and asked them what they though of the beta while playing free for all, I got mute banned.

What is a mute ban supposed to teach me anyways? If I get a quit ban, it teaches me not to quit. If I get a ban because I cheated, it teaches me not to cheat. But what does a mute ban teach me? "You are an annoying brat and as a result you are no longer fit to even listen to the voices of all the other angelic players in Matchmaking." Tell me Bungie, how am I going to correct the error of my ways? I am who I am. Should I go see a speech therapist so I don't talk as fast? Maybe work on the clarity of how I speak? If I pretend to be someone who I'm not, can I be allowed to participate in voice communications again?

Can you see what you fools have done? If the mute ban is allowed into the final game, even if you tweak it so that the hammer is better at interpreting the subjective, let me emphasize that SUBJECTIVE EVIDENCE it is given, instead of creating a Utopia where only the polite players are allowed to speak, you will have created a Nightmare of fear and paranoia.

Instead of playing the game and participating fully like we all should, players begin to get distracted by other thoughts.

"Should I wish plugging in my headset and helping out my team? They might not like me though, I do tend to stutter, and they might mute me, and I really don't want to get a mute ban, that would kill all chances of me being a helpful team mate. I think it's better to lose this match rather than risk becoming a worthless vegetable who brings down his team through lack of communcation"

"Should I mute this guy? He keeps talking to his friend about the amazing no-scope he got last game. It's really starting to bug me and distract my focus, so I really should mute him, but I'd feel bad if he was banned because of me. He's not a bad person afterall, he's just a bit excited, it would be wrong of me to mute him, so I'll guess I'll just have to endure it."

It's a world where thoughts of having fun is replaced by constant self-concious thoughts, evaluating if other players will accept them for who they are, or if they will mute them and rob them of their voice and ears.

Welcome to the Internet Bungie. Eventually, you'll find someone who simply doesn't like you. Give them a mute option, and they will take full advantage of it. Put in a banhammer that issues punishment on the basis of "These players didn't like this player in this time period, so it's banning time!", and you are set to send matchmaking to hell.

I don't see how I can make my point any more clear. Bungie. Kill the Mute Ban. It isn't worth your effort trying to make it work in a fair way, and we don't want it either. I don't want to live in fear in Reach of getting banned because I just try to be the person who I am inside.

Um, please try and fix the beeping to tell when you are hurt. In previous games, it didn't beep till later on when you were almost dead. In reach, it beeps after 1 bullet from a DMR it seems like. I don't know about other people, but this annoyed me so much that I essentially quit playing the beta for a while. For no reason should my shields warn me that I'm low on shields when my shield % is at like 85%+. Also, as others have said, increase base speed and jump height just a bit. Seems like the game was slow-paced because of lack of movement ability.

I like the ideas for "social" gametypes like invasion and gen defense, but it seemed like gen defense had a TON of delay. Kind of like playing H3 campaign online with people. Just a huge issue on when a button was pressed to when the action happened.

Also, please try and cater a little bit to the competitive gamers. Try and contact some people at MLG (website is http://www.mlgpro.com). MLG has provided a lot of steady gamers for every Halo game, and althought we are a minority, our opinions should be acknowledged. MLG has used the Halo titles as the flagship game since Halo 1 and we would appreciate an excellent competitive ending for the Halo series. At least if not for matchmaking options, please try and talk to some MLG employees about useful editing options for custom games. Options that will benefit our community and allow for very specific, clean-cut, well designed settings for competitive play.

A few problems with the game exist (obviously going to happen because it's a beta) but it was a good game. I am going to buy it because I have LOVED the Halo series, but I would be greatful if Bungie contacted MLG about ways to improve the game for our competitive use. Anyway, thanks for making the Halo series and good luck in the future.

To start off a little about myself

I have played 16 hours of primarily grab bag with a little bit of invasion and arena as well and I am very impressed but at the same time there is a lot of ways Reach can grow so here are my suggestions so far. I have a 2/1 K.D and I have played all of the games in the Halo series so you could say I am a fan.

WEAPONS:

DMR: When the DMR hits maximum bloom the rate that the reticule shrinks when your not shooting should be faster by 5-10% until 90% of the maximum bloom is reached. Could also use another 5-10 extra bullets for ammunition.

Focus Rifle: Needs to be able to be reloaded like the plasma rifle but slightly slower.

Needle Rifle (Pending DMR advice was taken): The Needle Rifle needs to take one less shot to drop somebody's shields. Could also use another 5-10 needles for ammunition.

Rocket Launcher: Blast radius needs to be decreased by 5%

Plasma Sword: Lunge needs to be ready at all times while using the spring armor ability.

Gravity Hammer: If somebody with armor lock pops there half power lock VS a gravity hammer the gravity hammer should knock them out of it approximately a second and a half walking distance away however doing no damage and leaving the guy with armor lock with a chance to shoot or use his last half power armor lock.

Plasma Rifle: Rate that the rifle overheats needs to be decreased very slightly.

Human Grenades: Blast radius and damage needs to be decreased by 5%

Plasma Grenades: Time of explosion needs to be increased very slightly.

Melee: When you are going to melee somebody in the front and it would have killed them you should be able to hold the melee button or something to do a special front melee execution.

POSSIBLE WEAPON IDEAS:

Regeneration Grenades: You can carry one of these at a time. You can throw em on the ground or onto your teammates to help them regenerate their shields or their health slowly. They have the radius of a plasma grenade and linger on the ground for 6 seconds. They can be accidently thrown onto enemies as well. Because there's no better feeling than saving your teammates a$$!!!

ARMOR ABILITIES:

Cloak: If your cloak is full power for the first two seconds upon activating your cloak you should be able to travel at maximum invisibility no matter how fast you are moving and then return to normal once the two seconds is over or upon being hit/shot.

Armor Lock: If your armor lock is at full power when you pop down to use your half power lock an EMP pulse should go off and the radius of the pulses need to be increased by 5-10%. If this is implemented I would also recommend that the recharge rate of your armor lock should be slightly increased once your power is fully drained. The reason why I recommend this implementation is because armor lock needs more functionality in 1v1 scenarios.

Jet Packs: Reaching maximum flight speed should be increased slightly during initial flight. Jet packs need slightly increased melee range while the jet pack is activated from the front and behind.

Sprint: A SWAT turn needs to be added allowing you to do a 180 spin if you are holding the armor ability button and down on the directional/d-pad. This would allow for running away not only from shots but specifically hammers and swords and melee who**s. Once you have completed the SWAT turn you should be able to hold down the armor ability button and keep running until you change direction.

SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW ARMOR ABILITIES

UNSC Knife/Covenent Plasma Dagger: This will be an armor ability that also you to hold the melee button when out of range of an enemy to equip your melee knife. The melee knife is a one shot to the front and has a special animation from behind. The front melee has the option of a special asassination as well. When your knife is equipped you cannot see your radar and your armor abilities cannot be used until you switch back to a weapon. The melee knife doesn't have any ammunition.

ARMOR:

I think the armor needs to look more intimidating and fierce and less bulky and power rangerish :( You guys also have to ensure that there are special and badass armor sets to be unlocked for crazy amounts of points because being able to unlock all the armor in 2 weeks would be a little bit lame. I'm not sure if it's crucial for the theme of Reach however I personally think that the armor paint should be solid and slightly shiny not chipped and dull.

AUDIO:

Footsteps need to be slightly louder I know this may upset some halo fans but its time that we start thinking about the people who actually buy headphones... :D

Other than that GREAT GAME KEEP IT UP BUNGIE!!!!!!

Here's a bit of feedback:

Betrayal booting:
As it stands, it seems like it's a random thing, rather than the whole "three strikes you're out" rule. For example: I grab the Ghost. In my frantic race to splatter a spartan in Invasion I accidentally splatter my teammate. Without warning I get booted for an entirely accidental betrayal the first and only time it happened.

Now on the other side.

I get on a team with someone who is betraying and is doing so on purpose. Do I get the option to boot him immediately? No. Do I get it on the second or third time? No.

I'm not saying the current system is a bad one, but it's very... Inaccurate.

Mute Bans:

An okay idea... Except I haven't seen anything as to what exactly determines if you get banned or not. If it works off of a peer system then it should be removed entirely. Why? Because most people just mute everyone as soon as they enter a game anyway. The numbers will be incorrect and as well the system could easily be abused. I would suggest mute bans being a temporary thing, same as the quitting ban. A length of time such as 24-48 hours would be suitable. Also make it be based off of something other than peer review since the majority of Live players... Well let's just say I wouldn't want them on my jury.

Otherwise everything seems quite nice! =) Keep up the amazing work!

The Beta was the -blam!-!! All the way. we got to enjoy the fun and hate the nonsense. just like halo should be.

Bungie - Please make mor armor customization please. read all they comments that have been made and please consider mosst of them. Alot of ppl are wanting to make their spartan to personal and almost can but could use some more options from yall. The skull facemask used in the campaign, will that be avail for purchase in the armory? and can we customize that as well? the lens on the helment? cna we change the color of that?
also can we make it a little harder to betray teamates. in invasion i did it 3 times on complete acciedent and got booted when i didnt even see my teamate behind the three enemies i was shooting. please try to make it to where afk's and deranker get removed from your team if they arent helping. there should be an majority boot option in gameplay to where if one member of the team is trying to make you lose, then the other 3 player can press a button and if majority votes then he gets removed for unsportsmanlike conduct. just trying to make the game fun again and not a cival war between on team. I know the DMR isnt the BR but it should provide the same outcome that the BR did. And once again...please mor armor customization....please bungie.

I think Bloom should be severely reduced or taken out completely. People havnt become used to it enough, right now its still "new and different." People dont like it when their aim is spot on and their shots dont connect. Like how the BR's spread was ruined in Halo 3. People hate that, it makes them feel cheated, everyone from noob to mlg pro. Especially in an arena/ arcade type shooter such as Halo.

Also, if an enemy shoots someone, and their team mate finishes them off... it should be a betrayal. No ifs, ands, or buts. I'm sick of team mates killing me over and over and having no punishment. I would ask for friendly fire to be taken out of most game modes, but that probably wont happen. Right now there is no punishment for just spamming nades at a position, even if your team mates are there. Or if someone wants a power weapon, they can wait for you to be shot, and then finish you off and take it. The fact that normal weapons are so weak in this game, gives them even more reason to do it.
